THE CHRISTIAN SERVICE PROJECT (CSP)

N.B.:  Summer projects must be approved in advance
by bro. Douglas OP, or Mr. Patrick Mulcahy,
by July 11, 2011.

The CHRISTIAN SERVICE PROJECT (CSP) is a component of the THEOLOGY III curriculum at Fenwick High School.  The CSP is a GRADUATION REQUIREMENT; students must complete the CSP before matriculating to the senior class.

RATIONALE
Mature Christain discipleship requires [1] an intellectual knowledge of the faith acquired through assiduous study; and, [2] a practical response to the Gospel challenge.

Saint James asks, "What good is it, my brothers & sisters, if someone says that he has faith, but does not have works?  Can that faith save him?  If a brother or sister has nothing to wear & has no food for the day, & one of you says to them, 'Go in peace, keep warm & eat well,' but you do not give them the necessities of the body, what good is it?  So also of faith itself, if it does not have works, is dead (James 2:14-17)."

GOAL
Each member of the Class of 2012 should complete no less than forty (40) hours of volunteer service with a non-profit organization.  Students will reflect upon their Christian service as it provides practical & concrete opportunities to think critically, to learn new skills, to increase self-awareness, to accept responsibility, & to develop morally & spiritually.  Students are encouraged to work with organizations that appeal to their interests.

PROCESS
Students may complete between twenty (20) & forty (40) hours of the CSP in the summer preceding the junior year:
  • Twenty (20) hours may be completed at "occasional" sites, e.g., service on some days at a given site during the summer vacation.
  • Forty (40) hours may be completed in a program that requires a deeper, sustained commitment, e.g., various mission trips, summer service camps, etc.
All projects must be approved in advance.
